What are the top things to do in London this December? Don’t worry about finding out where to go in London this festive season, I have compiled a list of both festive events and one arts event just for you!
If you want to discover the things to do in London this December, as we have a host of things going on, to get your festive fix then check out this video which shares my top 5 December Events in London.
Discover Contemporary Paintings
Visit the Southbank Centre for their “Mixing It Up: Painting Today” exhibit of 31 contemporary artists’ works, with the opportunity to soak in the beautiful pieces they have created. The artworks in the exhibition are said to “oscillate between observation and invention, depiction and allegory, illusion and materiality” showcasing paintings that bring together diverse images and ideas.
Tickets are £12 (free to members) and the exhibition runs until 12th December.
Hear Beautiful Christmas Carols
There is nothing better to get you in the spirit of the season than hearing beautiful holiday music. Choral Evensong events across London’s beautiful churches will be a wonderful way to enjoy Christmas carols. You’ll get to hear professional singers from choral groups to classical soloists and even opera singers. Locations include St Martin-in-the-Fields Church, Westminster Abbey and St Paul’s Cathedral.
Free to attend. Between 3pm and 6.45pm weekdays and Sundays.
Go Ice Skating
‘Tis the season to go ice skating, and London has an array of incredible skating locations to enjoy. Top of my list is the ice rink at the Natural History Museum. Not only is the ice rink outside one of London’s most iconic buildings, but it also has an alpine cafe for those of us a little less confident on the ice!
After 16 years, this will actually be the last time to enjoy this incredible experience as they will not be hosting another after this year. So get together with your loved ones and grab a mulled wine & some skates for the last chance to skate in the fabulous surroundings.
Tickets are from £12.65 and the ice rink is open until 16th January.
Watch a Christmas Movie
Throughout 2021 we have seen the comeback of heading to unique cinematic experiences, and Backyard Cinema are hosting their very own Christmas Movie Spectacular to get your movie fix in London. You’ll be able to watch classic Christmas movies such as Love Actually, Elf, and Home Alone accompanied by a live choir and an original story read by George the Poet.
All of this is set in Troxy, the Grade II listed art deco venue, which will be decked out to the nines to truly transform your experience.
Tickets are from £15, and showings are from 1st – 30th December
